The Science of Running discusses the importance of the factor related to how athletes carry their mass while standing still and points out why so many runners (approximately 79%) are injured in a given year. As such, the DVD focuses on what coaches can do to help their athletes avoid being injured. In that regard, the DVD details a 4-point structural assessment technique for determining an athlete's center of mass distribution, as well as reviews what constitutes a good stance. Subsequently, the DVD notes that an athlete's kinetic chain starts with the feet and explains how athletes can strengthen their feet and in the process be less likely to suffer an injury.
