Mary Yoke

Mary Yoke, MA, MM, has a masters degree in exercise physiology and two degrees in music, and has obtained 24 certifications in fitness. She has been a faculty member at Indiana University in the School of Public Health since 2011. Prior to that, she was an adjunct professor at William Paterson University in New Jersey, and was a senior adjunct faculty member for 22 years at Adelphi University in New York, where she authored numerous group exercise research studies. Mary is an associate research editor for ACSM’s Health & Fitness Journal, serves on ACSM’s Health & Fitness Summit program committee, and served more than six years on ACSM’s credentials committee. She is on AFAA’s adjunct board, is a Master Trainer and Certification Specialist for AFAA, and is a frequent speaker at national and international fitness conferences. She has presented throughout the U.S. in 49 states, and has led workshops in 11 countries. Mary is the author or coauthor of four previous books (AFAA’s A Guide to Personal Fitness Training and Personal Fitness Training: Theory & Practice, Functional Exercise Progressions, and Methods of Group Exercise Instruction) and has been featured in six educational videos and numerous online courses. Her research interests include the roles of motivation and pleasure in behavior change, nature and physical activity, and the efficacy of various group exercise modalities and personal training strategies.
