Johnny Burnett
Johnny Burnett is the defensive secondary coach at Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo, a position he assumed in 2006. Before joining the Mustangs’ staff, he served as the defensive coordinator at VMI for four seasons, while also coaching defensive backs. Prior to that, Burnett coached three years at Austin College, where he was assistant head coach, defensive coordinator, and recruiting coordinator. A 1970 graduate of UC Santa Barbara, Burnett has coached at several institutions, including Oklahoma State (1996-1998), Army (1979-1995), Pacific (1978), Air Force Academy (1977), Utah (1975-1976 and 1970-1971), and Shippensburg State (1972-1974). In his accomplished career, he has coached four All-Americans, 20 All-Conference performers, and seven academic All-American selections.
