Howie Thompson

Howie Thompson is the head soccer coach and director of women’s sports at Southeastern Community College in Whiteville, North Carolina. Previously, he coached for 20 years in Connecticut at several high schools and started the Weston Girls Soccer Program in Weston, Connecticut. He also coached at three high schools in the Triangle area of North Carolina and a high school in South Carolina as well. He is the current tournament director for Long Bay Soccer Club in South Carolina and the past tournament director for the Can Am Cup in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and helped organize CoastFA Soccer Club in 2006. He is the author of two fiction novels, A Game for All Seasons, the story of a young girls’ soccer team, and Overtime, a story of basketball, love lost and found, and redemption. Howie has three NSCAA/Adidas Regional Coach of the Year awards and was the NSCAA/Adidas 2002 National Coach of the Year. He was awarded the 2003 Who’s Who in American Teachers by NSCAA and achieved his National Coaching Diploma in 2006. The motto of Howie’s coaching career has been threefold: to help kids, to help kids have fun, and to have fun helping kids.
