Luis Ortiz

Luis Ortiz grew up playing baseball in the Dominican Republic. He earned a baseball scholarship from Union University in Jackson, Tennessee, where he set many of Union's batting average and home-run records, and established the NAIA career record for slugging percentage. In 1991, Luis was drafted in the eighth round by the Boston Red Sox. Subsequently, he played 14 years of professional baseball, part of which he spent in the majors with the Red Sox and the Texas Rangers. For most of his minor-league career, he consistently hit over .300. Upon retiring from professional baseball, Luis went back to college and earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education. Currently, Luis is working on developing a state-of-the-art baseball school in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
