Eric Anderson

Professor Eric Anderson is in the Department of Sport, Health and Exercise at the University of Winchester, England. A native Californian, he has coached high school, collegiate, and elite distance runners since 1986. He holds a bachelor’s degree in health science; a bachelor’s degree in physical education; a master’s degree in sport psychology, and both a master’s and doctorate in sport sociology from the University of California, Irvine. He is also a chartered psychologist. This formal education, combined with reading the academic literature on running, as well as his own research, has helped him masterfully synthesize research on the physical, psychological, and social aspects of distance running. Dr. Anderson has published several other books relating to distance running, including: Distance Running & Cross Country Training Games, Training Games: Coaching Runners Creatively; Trailblazing: The True Story of America’s First Openly Gay Track Coach; The Runner’s Doctrine, and others.
