Joey Lozano and James R. Smith

Eleazar “Joey” Lozano Jr. is a former journalist who covered high school and college football in north and south Texas.

James Richard Smith (1950–2001) invented the I-bone offense while he was a walk-on quarterback hopeful at Texas A&M University under famed wishbone inventor Emory Bellard. Smith developed the I-bone after running the wishbone in practice against the first-team Aggie defense as the attack team quarterback—a perspective that enabled him to see firsthand the wishbone’s weaknesses and predictability.
