John Sterner

John Sterner is the head football coach at Muskego (WI) High School, a position he has held since 1999. His 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2005 teams advanced to the Wisconsin state playoffs, while breaking several school records in scoring, offense, and rushing yardage. His 2001 team made it to the WIAA Division I quarterfinals, despite having the second-lowest enrollment in the state’s largest division. At the conclusion of the 2000 season, he received several Coach of the Year honors, and was selected to coach for the south squad in the Wisconsin All-Star Shrine Game. His teams have been noted for their success in employing a multiple-formation zone offense and their disciplined application of clock-management strategies. As a collegiate athlete, John was a two-sport standout in track and football at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He has written and spoken on numerous football topics and has most recently co-authored a book on practice organization.
