Brenda Frese

Brenda Frese is the head women’s basketball coach at the University of Maryland, a position she assumed in 2002. Since accepting the Terrapins’ job, Frese has guided Maryland to national prominence. Before taking the reins at Maryland, she served as the head women’s basketball coach at the University of Minnesota for one season (2001-2002). At Minnesota, she led the Gophers to a 22-8 mark, coaching a team that had been 8-20 the year before her arrival. Her efforts earned her AP National Coach of the Year honors, as well as Big Ten Coach of the Year recognition. A 1993 graduate of the University of Arizona, Frese has also served as an assistant coach at Kent State (1994-1996) and Iowa State (1996- 1999), before starting her head coaching career at Ball State.
