Lem Elway

Lem Elway is a teacher and football coach at Rochester High School and the head baseball coach at Black Hills High School in Tumwater, Washington. Elway graduated from Bellingham High School, Grays Harbor College, and the University of Montana with a master’s degree in special education. In addition, he obtained a sports management certificate from the University of Washington and an administrative certificate from Western Washington. Elway has been a teacher and coach for more than 35 years. He taught special education and coached baseball at the University of Montana, Hoquiam High School, Anacortes Middle School, and Rochester Middle and High School. Elway led the 1980 Hoquiam High School baseball team to the state championships, winning it all for the first time in the school’s history. His 1990 Anacortes Seahawk baseball team placed third in the state championships, also for the first time in the school’s history. He has conducted the Washington State Baseball Poll for the past 25-plus years and was elected to the Association’s Coaches Hall of Fame in 1992. In addition, he has been directly involved in athletic facility development. Elway was born into a family of sports fans in Hoquiam, Washington. He has been married for 37 years, and has three children and four grandchildren. He lives in Tumwater, Washington, with his wife, Peggy.
