Randy Bates

Randy Bates is the linebackers coach at Northwestern University, a position he assumed in 2006. Previously, he served as the secondary coach at Louisiana Tech for six seasons, where he helped develop the Bulldogs into one of the premier defensive units in the Western Athletic Conference. Prior to Tech, he was the linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator at Kent State. A 1983 graduate of The Ohio State University, Bates has also had coaching stints at New Hampshire, Navy, St. Joseph’s College, Miami (Ohio), and Muskingum College. He and his wife, Tracey, have three children—Samantha, Alexandra, and Olivia.
