Pickleball 101
Posted by Coaches Choice on Mar 10th 2021
Have you heard of pickleball? If you haven't, you probably will in the coming months as sunny and warm weather takes over and the activity continues to be the fastest growing sport in America.
Over the past year, the sport has grown exponentially, as families, friends, and neighbors have sought out ways to stay active, have fun, but play at a distance. While picking up a tennis racket is something many could have done, tennis can be a challenge to learn and become proficient at - whether you are playing singles or doubles. On the flip side, playing ping pong takes buying a table (expensive) and most play the activity inside.
Think of pickleball as combining tennis and ping pong. It's played outside, usually with four individuals, the court being half the size of a tennis court, playing with smaller racquets and a large whiffle ball. You can still get a good workout, but it's not nearly as intense as tennis. Even better, you can literally set up shop in any open space (driveway, street, etc) as long as you have a portable net.
If you're interested in learning the basics or advanced skills of pickleball, Coaches Choice has you covered with a quartet of videos with the late pickleball instructor Dennis Forbes.
