Jim Larranaga

Jim Larranaga is the head men’s basketball coach at the University of Miami, a position he assumed in 2011. Previously, he held the same position at George Mason University for 14 seasons (1997-2011). During his tenure, Larranaga led the Patriots to national prominence, guiding the program to five NCAA Tournament appearances and winning more games (273) than any other coach in program and conference history en route to three conference titles. He was named Colonial Athletic Association Coach of the Year in 1999 and 2011 and Clair Bee Coach of the Year in 2006. Prior to his arrival at George Mason, he achieved a 170-140 mark in eleven seasons as the head men’s basketball coach at Bowling Green. A 1971 graduate of Providence College where he was a four-year letterman for the Friars, he began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Davidson College under Terry Holland. He has also held positions on the coaching staffs at both American International College and the University of Virginia.
