Jay Sawvel
Jay Sawvel is the defensive backs coach and special teams coordinator at Northern Illinois University, a position he assumed in 2008. Prior to joining the Huskies’ staff, Sawvel served in the same capacity at Southern Illinois University for seven seasons. During his tenure at SIU, his special teams units were consistently among the nation’s leaders in blocking punts. A 1993 graduate of Mount Union College, where he was an All-Ohio Athletic Conference linebacker for the Raiders, Sawvel has also served on the coaching staffs at Eastern Kentucky, Notre Dame, and Ferris State.
