W. Larry Kenney

W. Larry Kenney, Ph.D., FACSM, is a professor of physiology and kinesiology at the Noll Physiological Research Center at The Pennsylvania State University. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in biology, and his Ph.D. in physiology from Penn State. Dr. Kenney has done extensive research in the area of aging and temperature regulation, including responses of older men and women to heat and cold stress and dehydration. He has published well over 100 scientific articles and book chapters and has lectured around the world on these topics. Dr. Kenney has been active in the American Physiological Society and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). For the latter, he served as president, was on the board of trustees and was chair of the publications committee. In addition, Kenney is a former chair of the Gatorade Sports Science Institute. He also was the senior editor of the 5th edition of ACSM’s Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription, the pre-eminent scientific resource for preventive fitness and clinic exercise professionals.
