Biography
  • Scott Shafer is currently the defensive coordinator and secondary coach for cornerbacks and safeties at Western Michigan University, a position he assumed in 2005. During the 2004 season, he served as the secondary coach at the University of Illinois. Before that, he spent the previous four seasons at Northern Illinois University as the defensive coordinator, where the Huskies tallied a record of 30-16. His defense led the Mid-American Conference in interceptions and was in the top three in takeaways, scoring defense, rush defense, and pass-efficiency defense. Shafer helped Northern Illinois to a share of the MAC-West Conference title in both the 2001 and 2002 seasons by directing a defense that was first in the conference rankings in interceptions, scoring defense, run defense, and sacks. During his tenure at NIU, Shafer produced eight All-MAC performers in the secondary.
