Athletic identity can be a powerful source of pride, motivation and confidence. However, if an athlete hasn't developed other parts of their identity and/or if they hold a limited athletic identity, they can be vulnerable to mental health concerns if/when there is a change in their sport experience. Kara Bazzi, co-founder and clinical director of Opal: Food+Body Wisdom, steps the athletes through an identity exercise that can be used routinely as a preventative tool in surveying and bolstering healthy self-esteem.
