Jay Hoffman

Jay Hoffman, Ph.D., is the chair of the department of health and exercise science at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), where he also holds the rank of full professor. Dr. Hoffman currently sits on the board of directors of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and previously served as vice president of the NSCA. Dr. Hoffman is also the sports science advisor to the Professional Baseball Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association. After completing his doctoral work at The University of Connecticut, Dr. Hoffman moved to Israel to conduct research at the Wingate Institute’s Olympic Training Center. Prior to joining TCNJ, Dr. Hoffman worked in the pharmaceutical industry in the United States, where he performed clinical studies focusing on analgesic medicine and sports injuries. Dr. Hoffman has played and coached football at both the professional and collegiate levels. Recent honors and awards bestowed upon Dr. Hoffman include the 2005 Outstanding Kinesiology Professional Award from the Neag School of Education Alumni Society of the University of Connecticut, 2003 Educator of the Year from the NSCA, 2003 Neag School of Education Outstanding Alumni Research Award (University of Connecticut), Editorial Excellence Award—2001 Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, and 2000 Most Outstanding Junior Investigator—NSCA. Dr. Hoffman has published more than 80 articles and chapters in peer-reviewed journals. He is an associate editor of the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research and the sport supplement and drug section editor for the Journal of Sports Science and Medicine. Dr. Hoffman also reviews articles for 15 journals in his field.
